Sturges, Morrisania, February 12, 1814, in which Morris discusses peace prospects and the fall of Bonaparte, and criticizes American conduct in the War of 1812. After the founding of the Confederation, Canadians tended to downplay the importance of the British regulars and the Royal Navy and instead congratulated themselves for having defended the embryo of their nation from an American invasion in the War of 1812. There was actually some coordination between the Army and the Navy here, which was very unusual.

The British strategy was to employ their superior naval strength to counter Americans along the eastern seaboard areas, specifically in the South (New Orleans), mid-Atlantic (Baltimore), and Hudson Valley (via the Great Lakes and Seaway), with the goal of driving a wedge between American forces in the North and South.

What actually happens is Oliver Hazard Perry’s famous battle on Lake Erie where he is down to sort of his last ship. Their passage was disputed by a party composed of Indians and members of the 103rd Regiment. S. military power, a strengthened economy with less foreign dependence, and the confidence to expand its borders to eventually span the continent by the year 1900. During the retreat the regiment suffered heavy casualties, yet lost not a single man captured.

The British army abandoned Detroit and retreated up the Thames River. BRIAN: Yeah, well, before we go forward in this show, I want to know what the War of 1812 is all about. Hence Sir George Prevost, Governor and Military Commander, only had to worry about Upper and Lower Canada, where he committed his forces to a strategy of defense.
