This volume of proceedings covers the theory and practice of nanoscale device technology. Participants will be selected on a competitive basis. In the case of chemical reactions nanostructured materials have been used as catalyst. So far, it has not been easy to use thin layers in pcLEDs owing to their low blue absorption; the conversion efficiencies of these layers have not been sufficient to generate the desired emission spectrum. The research in the edge stability and reconstruction will lead to new discoveries in graphene such as chaotic energy level quantization, edge spin-polarization, and Anderson localization induced by edge disorder.

Very recently the growth technique using strained layers, Stranski-Krastanow (S-K) growth, has shown promise for the fabrication of such devices. Data and findings also will be used to develop techniques to model, simulate, and predict the behavior and properties of magnetic nanostructures.

Together with Swissto12, LPMN has organized a series of courses on continuing education about sub-THz electronics. Ultracold samples of atoms, prepared by laser and evaporative cooling are crucial for this work. QC regions, revealed in bioinspired nanostructures, were found by us in amyloid fibrils formed from insulin protein. This pair of images shows two situations: when the electron is tunneling from the tip of a Scanning Tunneling Microscope into a bulk sample (left) and when it is tunneling into a thin layer (right), like graphene.

Films constructed from colloidal solutions of TiO2-xNx and Pd-TiO2-xNx on a quartz surface are photocatalytically active for the total oxidation of ethylene to carbon dioxide under UV and incandescent light illumination at room temperature as measured in a stop-flow microreactor.
